Volunteers offer practical, hands-on support where it’s needed
On Tuesday 20th May, three members of the K2 UK team picked up their gardening tools and headed out to take part in a volunteering day for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
The volunteering team, which was made up of Insurance Manager, Heidi Knight, Commercial Lead, Rob Lamb, and Relocation Manager, Matt Van Damn, spent time in the garden at the home of one of the families that Rainbow Trust supports, helping to get the space ready to be enjoyed during the summer months.
Key tasks during their time at the property included mowing the lawn, tidying flower beds and weeding between patio slabs. Over the course of four hours, the trio made good progress, managing to fill ten garden waste bags.
Reflecting on the experience, Rob says:
“It was a really enjoyable day- hard work, tiring, but really rewarding to lend a hand and see the change in the garden at the end of the day.”
Heidi adds:
“It was wonderful to be part of this particular volunteering activity – it felt very personal getting to meet the family, and I left with a reawakened sense of gratitude.”

Rainbow Trust supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness, pairing each family with an expert Family Support Worker, who is able to offer them practical and emotional support.
Rainbow Trust Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, Jenny Evans, comments:
“A big thank you to the three volunteers from K2 Corporate Mobility who gave up their time to support Rainbow Trust by helping to tidy and prepare a family’s garden ahead of the summer months. Families affected by serious childhood illness don’t have much time to spare and the importance of outdoor space cannot be underestimated. We are incredibly grateful to the trio for their hard work and enthusiasm, and are super pleased that the sun was shining for them!”

As part of our commitment to empowering our people to make positive contributions to local communities, K2 offers two days paid charitable leave per annum to all global employees, to offer practical support to good causes, such as Rainbow Trust.
