Preparations continue as walk team get ready to take on K2 Downs Link Challenge

A team of twelve K2 walkers are getting ready to take part in a full day trek from Shoreham-by-Sea to Guildford on 28th June, to raise money for the K2 Foundation. On the day, participants will be expected to walk more than 50km, as they make their way from the starting point on the south coast, back to K2’s office in Guildford town centre via the ‘Downs Link’.

The primary purpose of the walk is to raise vital funds for the K2 Foundation; a charitable foundation that was established in 2023, with the aim of supporting the lives of children in the communities within which K2 operates.

In addition to helping secure donations which will go towards the causes the K2 Foundation supports, taking part in the walk also provides members of the K2 team with a great opportunity to build connections with colleagues, whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery that the North Downs Way and South Downs Way have to offer.

In the lead up to the event, members of the walk team have been training independently, as well as taking part in training walks in small groups, after work and on weekends.

K2’s Marketing Co-ordinator, Daisy Jones, comments:

“The past two training walks I’ve done have been a great way to get to know the other walkers in a more casual setting. I’m really excited for the main event and love that I’m getting to do an activity I enjoy whilst also fundraising for the K2 Foundation.”

The K2 Foundation’s first major project, building a new school in the São Paulo district of Parelheiros, was completed at the end of January. But whilst construction work on the school may be complete, the school’s educational and pastoral work is just getting started. The K2 Foundation is committed to supporting the school with ongoing operational costs, to ensure that they are able to continue offering an education to children in the Parelheiros community, long into the future.

Kumba Dauda, K2’s Social Media Specialist, reflects:

“After seeing the emotional video of the K2 Foundation building the school in Brazil, I knew I wanted to be a part of fundraising to help support this cause. I have never walked 10 hours non-stop before, so the training walks organised by the lovely K2 team have been extremely helpful in terms of getting in some practice!”

With just ten days to go until the K2 walkers embark on the K2 Downs Link Challenge, they are looking for your support. Make a donation, giving what you can to help the team raise money for the K2 Foundation: donate via the team’s JustGiving page.
