K2 UK team members prepare for Downs Link Challenge

On Saturday 28th June, members of the K2 UK team will be taking on the Downs Link Challenge, to raise money for the K2 Foundation.

The route, which follows the old railway lines, will take K2 walkers through both the South Downs Way and North Downs Way, leading them from the coastal starting point of Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex, back to K255 in Guildford. With more than 50km to cover, it is expected that the walk will take the best part of a day to complete.

K2’s Executive Business Director, Richard Rutledge, comments:

“Following on from the success of previous fundraising walks, such as Race to the King and Race to the Stones, we’re excited to be trying something new this year, and taking on the Downs Link Challenge, as a self-organised summer event.
Whilst the route we’ll be taking is fairly flat, it will be a real test of endurance, as we expect the walk to take between ten and twelve hours to complete.”

In the lead-up to the event, a number of group training walks have been organised to help build stamina and team spirit. The first of these training walks, which are open to participants and non-participants alike, took place on Tuesday 13th May. Expertly led by Richard, this post-work walk saw seven members of the UK team head out for a fast-paced hike through the Surrey countryside, enjoying both good weather and company.

The Downs Link Challenge will be a key fundraising activity for K2 UK this year, with all money received from donations going to the K2 Foundation.

Richard continues:

“We hope that the Downs Link Challenge will help us to raise money for the K2 Foundation and the projects it supports around the globe.
Whether by building a school in Brazil, or funding sports coaching in the UK, the aim of the K2 Foundation is to support children’s futures in the regions where K2 operates.”
